Last Weekend of Summer - The season is changing. Days are shorter
and the smell of autumn is in the air.
As we say goodbye to summer, I’ve scheduled one last picnic in the park. The checkered cloth is washed and the invites
are out. Potluck it will be with
favorite dishes created from the bounty of the garden. The only rule is that it must be
homemade. Of course, since I can’t cook,
that definition expands to foods purchased at the farmers market that were
carefully hand-made in someone’s home.
All my friends are comforted to know that I won’t try to cook – a very
scary thought! They also know the picnic
centerpiece will be grand! My secret
weapon… husband David! Yes, he will whip
up some delicious item in the Kesler kitchen.
We are the perfect team. I don’t
know what he’ll be making but I’ll share my “end of summer” recipe with
you.
1 harvest basket (lined and
filled with wet foam)
5 dahlias
5 sunflowers
5 ornamental kale
4 stems lilies
2 stems Queen Anne’s Lace
3 artichokes
2 clusters “on the vine”
tomatoes
a variety of fresh herbs to
use as foliage
Assemble everything within the basket in a radial format. You can easily anchor the tomatoes and
artichokes with a wired wood pick. Think
casual and free – nothing too stiff for an end of summer picnic! (MORE BLOGS)
