Buy Local

Buy Local - I’ve embraced the “locavore” movement.  As best as I can, I search out locally grown food and locally owned restaurants.  (Even better is a local restaurant serving local food…oh, yeah!)  Add to that “locapour”.  Yes I search out local wines made from Pacific Northwest grapes and I drink local tap water.  Best of all, I am also a “locaflor”!  Whenever possible I purchase my floral materials from sources close by.  Living in the Pacific Northwest, we are quite lucky.  We have local rose growers, orchid growers, native foliages and oh, so many lovely mosses to choose from.

If you could do just one thing to help the world, think local.  Where ever you are, there are things produced locally that need to be purchased.  Start the hunt at a local farmers market.  Then, ask your local, independent grocer.  Talk to your local wholesaler, they have searched high and low for the best local sources.  I bet you find lots of things you did not even know were available from your very own home town.  Do you part to help the community and the small businesses by keeping your money local.  It’s a little thing but, it can make a big difference.  Next time you think, “how can I save the world” don’t get overwhelmed.  Instead, pick one item in your budget that can be converted to a local purchase.    Soon, like me, you will be a “locasupporter”.  (MORE BLOGS)
