Corie is the Director of the Seattle
Institute, and shares in the instruction of all programs and classes at Floral Design
Institute.
A native of Aberdeen, Washington, Corie is
a graduate of Floral Design Institute and has been a floral designer for over six years. A
very talented designer, Corie was blessed with a genuine gift for teaching others the
skills of floral design. Students are inspired by her skillful patience in teaching and
her genuine enthusiasm for flowers. Even though her position as an FDI director is
demanding and full time, Corie makes an effort to work as a free-lance designer on large
scale parties and weddings as often as possible. Corie believes that "real
world" experience can be the greatest teacher. Like the time she was asked to
quickly create an enormous unplanned arrangement for a five foot tall sculpted ice vase (a
last minute brainstorm of the brides mother). "I had to steal flowers from
everywhere, then quickly figure out how to place tons of flowers in a container designed
to look like a vase, but without any real receptacle for the flowers. All of this
while getting soaked with frigid water from the melting ice sculpture."
When Corie is not teaching or designing,
she loves spending time with her husband Sean, checking out new restaurants, attending
concerts and searching for new additions for her beloved collection of Pez Dispensers. |
