Here we have an example of a contemporary parallel design using the armature technique.   In the photo below you can see how I have created the armature.  The sticks are a mixture of ash and various willows and were actually scraps from the design workroom.  The design is free-form.  The sticks were bound together with "barked wire" which blends into the design.  The ends of the wires look like twisted twigs and buds.  The armature is free standing.   It can be made weeks in advance and is reusable.  To complete the design I slipped five stems of Amaryllis and a few branches of Almond through the armature and secured the stems with barked wire.  Other line flowers that would work well with this armature would be Iris, Agapanthus, and Allium.

The shallow terracotta tray (14"x14"x3") is perfect for this design.   The tray represents the earth.  the stick armature the bare branches of springtime with the Amaryllis blossoms and flowering Almond branches rising above to announce spring.
