The first and most difficult challenge for any new business owner is the designing of their business card.

I can vividly remember the frustration of trying to cram everything about me and my new flower shop onto a 2” by 3&¼” business card. “The card has to be artistic. I want potential customers to know that I am an excellent designer and a wonderful person. The card must also contain information: business name, address, phone number, my name, my design specialties.... Oh no! I’m out of space already.”

After hours of struggling for a balance between artistic impact and necessary information, the final result, although very good, was disappointing to me. I remember thinking, “If only I could put the photographs of the last wedding that I did on my business card. If I could just show potential customers samples of my floral designs. If they could just read some of the thank you letters that I have received from satisfied brides”.

The other day, I saw the perfect business card. The very card that I was trying to design 15 years ago. The name on the card said it all; “www.FancyFlowers.com”

With all of the news and overblown hype about the internet, the new billion dollar website businesses and the million dollar internet sales we overlook the fact that an internet website is the perfect, inexpensive tool for the small business person. A tool that allows you to turn a simple business card into a marvelous business brochure, a photo album, a sales catalog, a 24 hour message and ordering system, even a video library.
