PREPARING THE FLOWERS

Begin by wiring and taping each of your flowers with a 22 gauge wire, using the techniques discussed previously in this demonstration.  As you tape, pull as tightly as possible to ensure a delicate, thin stem.  The poinsettia blossom will appear large and unwieldy.  Don't worry, the bulk will easily be camouflaged by the other blossoms in the bouquet.

ASSEMBLING THE BOUQUET

Start with 3 - 5 blossoms in a cluster and then begin adding each blossom into your hand.   The individual stems should extend straight downward without crossing.   Periodically, you can tape the cluster together for stability.  Just a few wraps of the tape around the neck is all you will need.  As you add each blossom, curve it outward slightly to create a domed form.  Turn the bouquet in your hand and check for symmetry.  A rose or two tucked below the poinsettias will help hide the water tube and add visual depth to the bouquet.  The berries add wonderful contrasting color and texture.  Each item in this bouquet adds to the luxurious Christmas look.

FINISHING THE BACK

Concealing your mechanics is easy with a collar of cedar and galax leaves.  Just tuck a few pieces of cedar to drape gracefully at the edges and then add your galax leaves to cover the entire back side of the bouquet.  The lush foliage is the perfect accent to the rich reds.  Once all of the materials are added, you can blunt cut the ends of the wire.  You want to leave a handle that is 7 - 8" long for perfect balance.   Cut a few wires at a time to make it easier.
