We loaded it with Sunflowers, Monkshood, Hanging Amaranthus, Hypericum, Asclepias, Bells of Ireland, Black Baccara Roses, Indian Femma Roses, Golden Strike Roses, Berried Italian Ruscus, Leucadendron, Sedum, Chinese Lanterns, and an entire forest of red curly willow. Actually, there were so many flowers, Nanette had to drive a second HUGE vehicle with the willow forest and all of our extra supplies. (Thank you Nanette!) Just a little wedding…….

When we arrived on Friday, the family was already scurrying around. Setting up tables, preparing the feast, setting out table décor and filling the ballroom with the bounty of Autumn. Well established family traditions and gender roles were being played out. I had forgotten what fun it is to be part of a big family production. This was especially fun because everyone was nice!

I now know where Corie gets her “clean streak”. Her mother spent most of the afternoon vacuuming, making sure there was not a speck anywhere on the carpet. My philosophy has always been, “just invite more people to stand on the carpet and no one will ever notice the dirt”. Maybe I better stick to flowers and not the cleaning business.

Aunts and friends of the family were busily carving meats, assembling vegetable trays and cooking up casseroles. Male family members and friends hauled tables, quality checked the food, and confirmed that the beer keg tap worked. Everyone had their important duties and no one was left out.
