I love the prom season! I know, all of you out there doing corsages into the wee hours of the morning must be rolling your eyes. Yes, creating the mini “masterpieces” (for $20 or less, of course) can be grueling. But, think past the sore fingers and late nights to the prom-ers on parade. Remember the joy of attending your first prom. The excitement, the fear, the things you try to forget and the things you hope Mom never finds out…

My favorite cheap date is a visit to the Portland Waterfront Promenade. Here literally hundreds of prom-ers descend on restaurant row to dine before the big dance. There is a turn around for easy drop off by the limo, a friend or the accommodating parent. Off to the side, a park bench awaits. Each weekend during the season, you can find me there. Oh, what fun! Except of course on Mother’s day weekend when the skies opened and the downpour began. Oh, those poor prom-ers.
