In Season
. I am passionate about Peonies!
Voluptuous, blousy, fragrant, and pink; this bloom is definitely a female flower.
Yes, they do come in ruby, white and yellow, but pink, pink is how I think of a peony.
Native to Asia, these flowers grow well in western North America as well as southern
Europe. The bloom begins in late spring and continues through early summer. I always
expect to see them in the marketplace around Memorial Day.
Looking Ahead
Join us on June 11 for Basics of
European Floral Designand learn the
techniques of basing, pavé, pillowing and terracing as well as the botanical design
concept of multiple binding points. This class is a favorite of gardeners and the design
style is perfect for using your own home grown flowers.
Designing
with Gardeniasscheduled for June 13.
Learn the tricks and techniques for designing with these elegant but fragile
blossoms and take home your own clutch of gardenia blossoms, ribbons and crystal jewels.
Events
On Saturday, June 2, I will be participating in my very first organized race. The 5K Starlight Run is a short, fun and costumed race held just before the Starlight
Parade in Portland and I thought that this would be a perfect first race for me.
Although I invited all of our staff and instructors to join me, only David volunteered to
don a flamingo hat and run as the "FDI Team Flamingo" in the race. Come
out for the parade and cheer on "Team Flamingo".
