Commonly called "wet foam", floral foam is the primary material for making modern floral designs. Floral foam is designed to absorb and hold water in it's capillary structure.  Flower stems properly inserted into floral foam will be held in place and can draw water up into the flower stem from the floral foam.  Before designing an arrangement, floral foam should be allowed to soak in a solution of water and floral preservative / food. Each brick is 9"x4"x3".

1/4" Waterproof Tape

We jokingly call Waterproof Tape the "Duct Tape" of floral design.  It is used to secure floral foam into a container or to create a "grid" on a floral vase.  Waterproof tape is a grand design material.  It is very strong and when affixed to a clean dry surface holds tightly even when submerged in water.

High Temp Glue Gun

The high temp glue gun is an indispensable tool for the floral designer.  For years we searched the "best" glue gun available.  We tested dozens of guns always believing that the that more expensive models would be the "best".  Guess what?  This inexpensive gun is just as good as any on the market.  And, when it gets gunky with glue residue and bits of floral material,   just throw it away and get a new one.

10" High Temp Glue Sticks

You can buy hi-temp glue guns nearly anywhere, craft stores, hardware stores, even the supermarket.  Finding high-quality glue sticks is another matter.  These glue sticks will fit any standard hi-temp glue gun.  A tip for working with hot glue.  Touching the hot glue and burning yourself is inevitable. A tip for working with hot glue: keep a bowl of ice water near your work area when working with the glue gun. Then, whenever you burn yourself, immediately plunge the burn into the ice water and keep it there for a few minutes.  This will lessen the hurt, stop the burning, reduce the damage to the skin, and promote more rapid healing.

Barked Wire

This stuff is really cool!  It is a 22-gauge wire covered with a bark-like natural organic material. Looks very much like a long, skinny root.  It is wonderful for building floral armatures and makes a great banding material.  I have even seen bridal bouquet holders made of this wire.  Beautiful!.  This wire is simply a "must have" for every floral designer's tools kit.

image004.11.02.903.80 Gripper-Bowl.gif (15313 bytes) Green Designer Bowl

This is the "standard" design bowl used for making floral arrangements in flower shops throughout America.  Also known as a "Gripper Bowl" this design bowl is the best when the arrangement will conceal the container and when a low container price is important. The bowl is 6.25 inches in diameter, 2 inches deep and designed to hold one-third of a brick of floral foam perfectly.
