| Remember wandering through the fields and gathering wild flowers to
take home to Mom? Maybe it was as simple as a dandelion or as tall and extravagant as a
wild carrot bloom. Or maybe you had a neighbor with a well-tended garden that tempted you
to gather forbidden blossoms for your favorite person in the whole wide world. In my
childhood haunts, we had wild blue bachelor buttons, feminine pink milkweed, lacy white
Queen Annes Lace, wild daisies and of course, the ubiquitous dandelion. Not too far
away, my grandparents had a farm with wonderful old flower bushes: the traditional lilac,
viburnum and of course grand climbing roses. Between the vacant fields and Grandmas
house, I had so many flowers to choose from. What fun! It was easy to gather flowers for
mom and say Happy Mothers Day! I still love to gather flowers for Mom. And yes, she still loves to receive flowers. But, as an adult, the expectations are a bit different. I dont think Id get the same loving look from a dandelion today. Besides, where did all the vacant fields go? And Grandmas house is certainly not the same. Today I gather flowers from the farmers market, the flower market, the flower shop and the grocery store. A Mille Fleur arrangement is perfect to create for Mom. Mille Fleur literally means a thousand flowers. Think of the thousands of things Mom did for you growing up and say thank you a thousand times. Search out her favorite flowers, colors, and fragrances and mix it up in a big bouquet of love. Create your own arrangment of "A Thousand Flowers for Mom". I think you will really enjoy this. See you next week |
