Commonly called "wet foam", floral foam is the primary material for making modern floral designs. Floral foam is designed to absorb and hold water in it's capillary structure.  Flower stems properly inserted into floral foam will be held in place and can draw water up into the flower stem from the floral foam.  Before designing an arrangement, floral foam should be allowed to soak in a solution of water and floral preservative / food. Each brick is 9"x4"x3".

image-movielink002.00 Waterproof-Tape.gif (18762 bytes) 1/4" Waterproof Tape

We jokingly call Waterproof Tape the "Duct Tape" of floral design.  It is used to secure floral foam into a container or to create a "grid" on a floral vase.  Waterproof tape is a grand design material.  It is very strong and when affixed to a clean dry surface holds tightly even when submerged in water.
FS1006, price, $3.00, single roll

Also known as "Cold Glue", Oasis Floral Adhesive is a wonderful product that allows you to actually glue fresh flowers to ribbon or tule, to foliages and garland. This product adds a whole new dimension to corsage making. Floral Adhesive comes in an easy to use 39 gram squeeze tube, with resealable cap.
FS1008, price, $6.50, single tube
image004.11.02.81.86 Picks.gif (18856 bytes) Wired Wood Picks

Wired Wood Picks are an essential aid to the floral designer with a multitude of uses.  I use wood picks to cluster grasses for a single insertion into floral foam.  If I am working with a very thick stem such as a Bird of Paradise and limited foam space I will attach two wood picks to give greater stability to the insertion. Wood picks can be used to secure a bow in an arrangement and are great for securing fruits, vegetables, pine cones and pods in a floral design.

4" picks, FS1061, price, $5.50, bundle of 375 picks
6" picks, FS1062, price, $6.50, bundle of 375 picks

This stuff is really cool!  It is a 22-gauge wire covered with a bark-like natural organic material. Looks very much like a long, skinny root.  It is wonderful for building floral armatures and makes a great banding material.  I have even seen bridal bouquet holders made of this wire.  Beautiful!.  This wire is simply a "must have" for every floral designer's tools kit.
FS1139, price, $12.50, single 70' roll
image004.11.02.90.41 Steelpix-machine.gif (15844 bytes) Steelpix Machine

The Steelpix Stemming Machine places a sharp steel pick on the end of an artificial flower stem, a wire or a wood pick.  This allows for an easier and more secure insertion of stems into floral foam, dry foam or Styrofoam. For floral designers working with silk and dried materials, the Steelpix machine is an indispensable time saver.  When designing with fresh flowers I use the Steelpix Machine to place a pick on the ends of woody stems and vines.  I group Beargrass or other grasses, pick them and insert them into floral foam.
Steelpix machine, FS1050, Price, $232.50
1.75" steel pix refill, FS1051, price, $11.00, pack of 2,000
3" steel pix refill, FS1052, price, $11.00, pack of 2,000
