Preparations - Valentine's Day is just a month away!  Are you ready for the rush of big flower sales? This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday, traditionally a fabulous day for very strong sales.  A mid-week holiday is too far from the weekend to allow dinner to replace flowers and recipients will be at work during the day, eager to receive and show to their co-workers just how much “they are loved”.

I no longer own a flower shop and Valentine’s Day is the one holiday that I really miss.  I love the joy of helping the first time flower buyer, helping a husband write a love note to his wife and finding something in budget for a blushing teenager.  I love the excitement of planning the week, getting all of the arrangements finished, out the door and delivered.  I even revel in helping the last minute customers who despite all of the week’s of advertising and promotion didn’t realize that it was Valentine’s Day until the very end of the day…  Mostly, I love the satisfaction of a successful holiday and a job well done.

We are four weeks away, where to begin?  Design your marketing theme.  It could be anything.  The trick is to make it fun and keep it true to your personal style. One thought would be to take a riff on the "Flower Lovin'" theme.

Street vendor?  You could be the Flower Lovin' Shack.

Pop up store?  How about the Flower Lovin' Boutique?

Are you a web-based flower shop?  That works too!  Try the Flower Lovin' Connection.

Flower shop with a brick and mortar presence?  You are the Flower Lovin' Resource.

Once you have a theme, time to put a graphic together and print it on EVERYTHING.  Yes, EVERYTHING!  Stickers are easy and inexpensive.  You could even make your own enclosure cards with a business card template.  With 4 weeks to go, you better get started.  The whole marketing theme plan and printing needs to be done by the end of the week.  No time to waste!  Check back next week and we'll move on to the next step in your holiday preparations.    (MORE BLOGS)
