Roses at Work - We all love the beautiful rose.  In the garden or in an arrangement, roses are fabulous!  Did you know, they are also a hard working beauty? If you’ve visited a vineyard, you may have thought, “How nice!  The farmer planted pretty roses.”  Nice thought but…. No, the rose is not planted for the aesthetic beauty.  These plants have a job to do in the vineyard. The roses are an early warning sign for potential grape damaging diseases.  Roses are susceptible to the same fungal diseases such as powdery mildew as the grape vines.  If the vineyard worker sees problems in the roses he knows to quickly take action to prevent problems in the grapes.  Like the “canary in the mine” these roses have a job to do.   Looking at this picture with the happy blooming rose, I think these grapes are going to make some fabulous wines.  (MORE BLOGS)
