Advanced Floral Design Online

This Advanced Floral Design Distance Learning Program is designed to provide advanced training for the experienced floral designer wishing to expand their base of floral design studies, develop new skills, learn new techniques and advance their floral design career. A prerequisite of Basic Floral Design or 500 hours of on-the-job experience as a floral designer is required.

Offering the same training as our Learning Center program, the professional Advanced Floral Design certificate course is designed to provide advanced training for the experienced designer in Wedding Design, Contemporary, European and Asian Design, Tropical Flowers and Floral Marketing.  This training will benefit the experienced designer in securing additional wedding, party, home decorating and advanced design work.

How it all works – We make Flower School fun and easy!   The training is broken down into 10 separate Instruction Segments. Each segment may include a combination of reading, videos, quizzes, design submissions and essay submissions. This is a hands-on program and you will be completing assigned floral designs which you will photograph and submit to your instructors for evaluation, critique, and suggestions for improvement.  The instructors may also suggest additional training exercises to help you improve you skills.

With our direction and advice, you will purchase the fresh flowers and supplies needed for the completion of your assignments and exercises.  Most importantly the FDI teaching staff is always available during normal business by email or by telephone. Working at your own pace, in the comfort of your own home and following the step-by-step training in our proven distance learning program, you will expand your understanding of floral theory and master contemporary techniques and design mechanics. Our proven teaching methods will prepare you to progress rapidly in your floral career and establish yourself as a true professional. You will learn to utilize the Fibonacci sequence, the golden measure and to master the science of design. You will learn to design with expanded flower varieties, foliages and their related care, handling and mechanics. We will cover the latest trends, styles and techniques found in contemporary floral design today. Yes, you will learn a lot!

The program will conclude with  two final exams. The first exam is a written exam covering the same material found throughout your studies. The second exam is a practical exam consisting of three separate floral designs which you will complete, photograph and return to us for evaluation.

If you are like me, you find exams "scary". Don't worry, by the time you have completed all 10 Instruction Modules, you will be fully prepared for the final exams and will complete them with ease. The final practical exam is a pass/ fail test. You will receive a complete written review and critique of your final exam floral designs.

After you have successfully passed your final exams we will immediately send you your Floral Design Institute Graduation Certificate of Achievement.  You will now possess not only a Graduation Certificate from one of the most respected Floral Design Schools in the world, you will also own a complete photographic portfolio of your own floral design work plus, the knowledge, the training, the skills, and the practical experience that will allow you start a career as a floral designer.  Students completing both the Basic and Advanced Certificate programs are awarded an additional certificate and the right to use the title, Floral Design Institute Certified Floral Designer.

As a Graduate of Floral Design Institute you will be part of the Tulip Tribe. You will continue to have our support and assistance as you pursue your career. Call, text, email or visit us, we are here to help.

As you progress through your lessons, you will learn new skills and develop the proficiency necessary to apply these skills. You will be amazed at how quickly you will master the skills of advanced floral design.

Your training is broken down into 10 separate instruction segments. Each may include a combination of reading, video, quizzes, design submission and essay submissions. You must complete each lesson in full and submit one at a time.  We know it is tempting to jump ahead and do all the favorite segments but, it is best to complete your course in order.  Each lesson builds upon the previous lesson.  Jumping around can lead to missed information and lost opportunity for full understanding of the concepts.

Be assured we are here to help.  You have the comfort of knowing that should you have a problem or a question you can always reach out for instructor support.

What is the difference between Advanced Floral Design, Classroom Study and Advanced Floral Design, Distance Learning?

While the curriculum and the syllabus are nearly identical, more effort and initiative is required of the Online student. In the classroom, we buy all of the fresh flowers and organize your classroom day for you. With Online Study, you have to obtain your fresh flowers and supplies, plus plan and organize your study time. If you are a motivated individual, and you finish all Instruction Segments fully and completely, then the resulting quality of training is nearly the same.

How does the online program work?

The online program consists 10 separate Instruction Segments. Each segment may include a combination of reading, videos, quizzes, design submissions and essay submissions. There are over 50 video training clips in this program.  All of the educational materials are available through an online instructional technology platform created and maintained by Floral Design Institute. Each student will be given access to this program upon enrollment. This is a hands-on program and you will be completing assigned floral designs which you will photograph and submit to our instructors for evaluation, critique, and suggestions for improvement.  Th e instructors may also suggest additional training exercises to help you improve you skills.

Can I use different fresh flowers than those suggested for my design projects?

The answer is yes and no. In some projects you may substitute flowers. While others require specific flowers (usually the more common flowers). We will offer a listing of acceptable substitutes where appropriate.

What if I cannot find the flowers that I need for my design projects?

Flowers have such widespread distribution today, that you will be able to find the flowers needed for your projects. Even if you live in the middle of nowhere, there are flowers-by-mail sources that we can recommend.

How much are the Fresh Flowers and Supplies that I need for my design projects going to cost?

While we encourage students to explore and practice all design projects presented in this program, there are only 6 projects required for submission and evaluation.  Each of these projects will cost between $35 and $75, with an average cost of $50 per project.  These costs can vary depending on where you are located.  We will offer guidance on where you can obtain flowers and supplies for the best prices, you can even use flowers and foliages from your garden. Our project lessons are organized so that you can reuse fresh flowers for the greatest economy.

Are there any Time Limits for completing my design projects?

I won't be able to watch over your shoulder as you complete you projects. However, developing good speed in design is critical to profitability. We will offer suggested time benchmarks that you will aim for in designing your projects.

Can I enroll at any time for the Distance Learning Program?

Yes, you can enroll at any time, and proceed at your own pace.

This is the most complete, highest quality Advanced Floral Distance Learning Program for Floral Design ever offered. Even more exciting is the very reasonable price!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the videos and the kind of communication your school is known for. I feel that my status as a student in your distance learning means that I am cared for by the school. This is not an easy thing to accomplish via distance learning. You all do a fabulous job making this an intimate and a positive experience for the distance learner. Bottom line, I really am enjoying your school. You all are doing a fabulous job serving those of us in the distance learning community. Bravo! Gwen

I just want to take a moment after finishing my module 7 (almost half of the course!!) to let you know how I'm feeling about this great distance learning experience. I am very happy with the course and although it is challenging, and a bit stressful, what I'm learning and experiencing is really, really worth it all. I have been learning a lot and feel that these lessons are exactly what I was looking for. Ana

Thank You, your institute has given me a well rounded approach to floral design. It has also given me a foot forward in this industry far exceeding my expectations. I could not have gone as far as where I am today without your excellent instructions and hands on approach to design. Furthermore, your institute is my lifeline if I have any questions about Floral Design ,and or questions pertaining to the Floral Industry. Many thanks to Leanne & Dave Kesler and your wonderful staff for their hard work, and dedication to the Art of Floral Design. Tomasi
