This elegant bridal bouquet uses beargrass to give the illusion of a contemporary hand tie, then it mixes hydrangeas, roses, cymbidium orchids, and dendrobium orchid florets, and is finished with a lovely linen bouquet wrap.

Beargrass Enhanced Bridal Bouquet

Hydrangeas and roses and cymbidiums and dendrobiums, oh my! So many fabulous flowers to work with – what is the best way to keep them lovely and hydrated for the wedding day? Enjoy our Beargrass Enhanced Faux Hand-Tie Bouquet demonstration and learn a fun technique for keeping the flowers fresh through out the wedding day. What a lovely bouquet; the illusion of a contemporary hand tie bouquet and the luxury of a rehydrating water source for the wedding blooms.

Materials for this bouquet include a straight handle bouquet holder, bear grass, hydrangea, roses, cymbidium orchids, and dendrobium orchid florets.

STEP ONE:

Begin with a straight handle bridal bouquet holder and a collection of your favorite flowers. Add a big bunch of bear grass and you are ready to get creative.

Prepare bear grass tufts using bind wire to hold them in place.

STEP TWO:

While your flowers are hydrating, (of course you always properly hydrate your flowers) prepare your beargrass tufts. Divide your bunch into 8 equal sections. Loop the ends and bind them together with green Oasis bind wire.

I tucked all my ends inside. If you like a more casual look, leave some of the tips extending. They will move and sway with the movement of the bride.

Bind all of the bear grass tufts loosely together into a bouquet sleeve.

STEP THREE:

Gather all your beargrass tufts and loosely bind them together into a bouquet sleeve. Key word here is loosely. You want to slide your bouquet holder handle into the center of the tufts when you are finished with the bouquet design.

If you are working ahead on the wedding preparations, this portion of the bouquet can be done 3-7 days in advance. Just cut the ends of the grass and set it in a vase of water to drink. Careful, someone may want to buy it as the new, edgy, grass design that they heard about somewhere….

Insert roses, hydrangeas, cymbidium orchids, and dendrobium orchid florets into the bouquet holder.

STEP FOUR:

Create your beautiful floral bouquet using the straight handle holder. Be sure all your stems are firmly inserted so they don’t fall out. For extra security, spray the finished bouquet with Floralock. This will create a glue casing to lock the stems in place.

When you are finished, the bouquet should look fabulous from the front and sides. The back – that is another story. It should be bare and dreadfully unfinished.

Design tip: The dendrobium florets are added last. Just snip the bloom from the stem and add it to the bouquet with a dab of Oasis cold glue. Yes, they are just glued on top of the other blossoms.

sSlide the bouquet holder into the sleeve of beargrass tufts.

STEP FIVE:

Cover up that dreadful bouquet holder back by sliding the bouquet holder into the sleeve of beargrass tufts. A little bit of cold glue on the handle will ensure it stays just where you want it. (Cold glue is our best friend in the wedding flower world!)

Add a linen bouquet wrap to hide the bind wire and form a smooth handle.

STEP SIX:

A Bouquet Wrap with the linen finish is perfect for hiding all the bind wire. The wrap also provides a comfortable handle for the bride.

You certainly don’t want to give her a beargrass cut. Can you imagine? Blood on the bridal gown, upset bride, oh, my! I’ll never use beargrass again. No! Just make sure you have a wonderful handle to hang on to.

The finished design creates the illusion of a contemporary hand tied bouquet even though it has a water source for the wedding blooms.

STEP SEVEN:

What a lovely bouquet. The illusion of a contemporary hand tie bouquet and the luxury of a rehydrating water source for the wedding blooms. You and the bride are both sure to be thrilled on the wedding day.
