Simple Ranunculus Boutonnière
Video Transcription
With wedding and event season, a simple boutonniere is crucial. A ranunculus. Oh, so easy. Let me show you how it's done.
For the materials, obviously you need a perfect ranunculus. Then from there, you pick materials that you want to add with. Maybe some ruscus, maybe viburnum, a touch of ribbon. And then for security, a 22 gauge wire.
Using the more contemporary technique, and the natural stem, you'll just cut it down to about two inches, two to three, somewhere in there. And then using your 22 gauge wire, slide it up through that hollow stem. I know. So wonderful. It's nice and hollow. Straight up into the head, but don't come back out. Then give it a cut. And now you're ready to begin the rest of your boutonniere.
With your wired stem, then you can just take the rest of your materials. Maybe a bit of viburnum, cut it down. Removing the leaves, maybe a bit of the ruscus. Cutting it down, determining how much you want, and then tucking it all together and using your corsage tape, just taping that in place. But all just up at the top, don't go down. You just want that one little band holding it all together.
With everything secured, go back and grab a bit of ribbon. Give it a cut. And then wrap around right where you taped so that you hide that completely. You don't want anybody to see your mechanics. So you wrap that around. You might do two or three times around, depending on what you like, and then tying it together tightly, and repeat that with a second knot to make sure that it doesn't come undone. Then using your shear, giving it a beautiful dovetail, giving it a little clip, and a clip. And then coming back, removing the extra stems, and then fluff it out so it's perfect and ready to wear.
The recipe? You start with that one beautiful Ranunculus. Then add in just a bit of the Ruscus and a bit of Viburnum. For the mechanics, that 22 gauge wire, and then to finish it off, a bit of ribbon. That's all you need.
