Description: Small, flat, and heart-shaped flowers on thin, delicate, drooping stems. The flower heads tremble or "quake" in the wind, giving the plant its common name.

Color: Green in the summer turning golden-brown as the flowers mature

Botanical facts: The seeds of quaking-grass are an excellent source of food for all kinds of smaller farmland birds.

Design notes: The delicate, airy structure of quaking grass can add movement, texture and interest to a floral design. The arching stems of quaking grass can help create lines in a design, guiding the eye through the arrangement.

Purchasing hints: Purchase stems which are fresh, flexible and well hydrated.

Conditioning: Remove all foliage that will be below the waterline. Cut stem ends with a sharp knife. Hydrate in a solution of water and commercial floral food for two hours before storage or usage.

Additional notes: Quaking Grass dries well and is an excellent addition to dried arrangements. When dry the seeds of some species rattle with movement, thus the common name of Rattlesnake Grass.
