Anna Nelson
FDI Instructor
Anna is a Floral Design Institute Certified Floral Designer who graduated from FDI in 2016. Her floral career began at the age of 20 when in her own words, “I suddenly realized that it was possible to design the life you wanted, to have a creative career and to truly love what you do.” In the middle of her college years, she took a semester off from studying for her Business Finance degree to study at the Floral Design Institute. She figured it would be fun to work in a floral shop while finishing out her business degree– little did she know, upon graduating from Portland State University, she'd have her own business up & running and would pursue her floral entrepreneur dreams full-time. Calling upon her design training at FDI and business degree from PSU, her business Mimosa Floral Company has become an esteemed highly sought-after wedding and event design firm in just 7 short years.
Anna lives her philosophy every day in the classroom “I have a theory that spending your life creating beautiful things– physical, metaphysical, anything-outside-yourself things, is the path to happiness. Creating good food, friendships, paintings, laughter, gardens, music, education, grand events, works of art, and creating love, are all things that humans put out into this world as an extension of themselves. To find a way to use your creativity and spike your imagination, to share your zest for life with those around you, is life's greatest gift.” Students love Anna’s design talent and her easy-going, relaxed and informative approach to teaching.
When Anna is not busy with weddings, events or teaching she is gardening, cooking, working on the latest DIY home project, and exploring Oregon with her husband and their golden retriever.
